VMware Workstation 9.02 and Arch Linux

Yesterday I installed the current version of VMware Workstation on my Arch Linux installation. I found many problems and their solutions. Here is my solution for a successful installation of VMware Workstation on Arch Linux.

chmod +x VMware-Workstation-release.architecture.bundle
./VMware-Workstation-release.architecture.bundle --console

Install the generated AUR package.

pacman -U vmware-patch-release-architecture.pkg.tar.xz

Reinstall the modules of the AUR patch package.

vmware-patch -f

Tips and tricks

Rebuild the kernel modules

vmware-modconfig --console --install-all

Entering the workstation licence key from terminal

/usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware-vmx --new-sn XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
